We live in an area of Brooklyn called DUMBO (an acronym for "Down Under Manhattan Bridge Overpass" - and we do basically live right under the Manhattan Bridge).  From our windows we have a great view of Brooklyn Bridge and the lower Manhattan skyline:

Brooklyn Bridge (foreground) and Manhattan Bridge (background) circa 1900, from about the area of the Brooklyn Heights Promenade. Most of these piers are now vacant, but back in the day they were a major factor in New York City's power as a trading center.
